Pressed Powder Highlighters | Best Highlighters
This type of highlighter is the most common in the market today. There is probably no makeup brand without a pressed powder highlighter. People love it because it’s super easy to use and the amount of product in most of these pressed powder highlighters will last you a lifetime!
1. Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector
The Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector is one of the best-selling highlighters today. Its creamy formula comes with luminescent pearls that are ultra-fine, which makes it easy for the skin to absorb. The pigments are multi-toned as well, making it easier to adjust to the skin’s color and undertones. What does everyone love about it? It’s in powder form but blends easily like a cream or liquid. Plus, the silky finish is love! The other shades of this skin perfector are also something to watch out for!
2. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder
Take photos like you’ve got the best lighting every single time. The Hourglass Ambient® Lighting Powder is made from photoluminescent technology that will guarantee the perfect highlighting for your face. Flattering for different skin tones, this highlighter helps diffuse and soften your look, thanks to the color-collecting particles that filter out harsh light. What kind of shade do you need? Choose from Ethereal Light, Diffused Light, Dim Light, Mood Light, Luminous Light, and Radiant Light!
3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator
Want to look like you’re glowing from within? Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator will give you that natural glow. These brush-on highlighters help in highlighting and brightening the face as well as your décolletage. It’s made of ultra-fine formula so no need to worry about patchy or loose shimmer particles. And my goodness, this highlighter is so pretty too!
4. The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer
A lot of makeup junkies I know really love this one too. The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer is one of those classic highlighters that everyone has on their makeup stash. And although there are newer highlighters in the market today, some people just keep coming back to this. What’s to love? It’s an illuminator in a honey hue that helps give the skin a subtle glow, leaving skin looking younger and softer too!
5. Colourpop Pearlized Highlighter
Oh boy! These Colourpop Highlighters are such a bargain, but the quality is worth more than what you’re paying! The pearlized highlighter comes in six shades — a mix of highlighters and bronzers to match everyone’s skin tone. What’s not to love about these pretty little things? It’s a creamy powder formula that is long-wearing and blends like a dream. It’s buildable and has great texture! This will leave your skin looking healthy and definitely be glowing for sure. Honestly, I don’t if I were to put this on the pressed powder category or the cream category, but whichever goes! LOL
Liquid Highlighters | Best Highlighters
Alternatively, liquid highlighters are also very popular. However, professional makeup artists are the most common users of this type. This one is not as convenient as its pressed powder counterpart but definitely as effective. Personally, I love using liquid highlighters because it gives a more natural “glow from within” look. It’s more forgiving compared to the pressed powder ones. You can use it prior to applying your base or right after. A little goes a long way — you probably don’t even need a pea size amount to get that glow on. Best thing is, you can use this on your body! Add a drop or two in your lotion or moisturizer and you’ll be a glowing goddess in an instant.
1. Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops
If you prefer liquid highlights, then the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops could be the best highlighter for you. My my, this highlighter in a glass bottle is super intense and it can take a bit of getting used to to make it work. We suggest putting a little bit in your hand first before application. Nonetheless, the beautiful glow is utterly stunning! One can actually describe this as liquid gold because it’s super pigmented! Another thing we love is that it comes in six beautiful shades, which makes it easier to find that glow that matches your skin tone.
2. L’Oréal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator
Beauty on a budget doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality. This L’Oréal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator is the perfect example! This highlighter is formulated to illuminate the skin with its lightweight formula and key shades to match all skin tones and undertones. It comes in Ice, Rose, and Golden. Ice is perfect for pink and blue tones, Rose is for yellow, peach, pink, and blue tones, while Golden is best for peachy and yellow tones.
3. Perricone MD No Highlighter Highlighter
Do you want to go for that natural glow without the shimmer? If you really really want to keep it natural, the go-to highlighter is the Perricone MD No Highlighter Highlighter. I think the name actually speaks for itself. This is great for daytime wear.
4. Benefit Sun Beam
No highlighter list will be complete without Benefit’s Sun Beam or High Beam. It’s one of the cult products for the Benebabes out there. This highlighter gives a nice glow to the skin that looks very natural. For those with medium skin, the Sun Beam’s bronze-y glow is perfect. For those with fairer skin, their HG is the High Beam. This is definitely a must-try for everyone who wants a great highlighter.
5. Temptu Air Pod Highlighter
Is this the first time you’ve heard of Temptu? Well, let me introduce you to this innovative highlighter. The Temptu Airbrush Makeup System airbrushes the highlighter on the skin. This can be an expensive product for some, but for those who are using it, they say that the product is very easy to use and can’t see themselves going back to their old highlighting ways. The Temptu has a dewy and soft finish on the skin–the perfect “glowing pick-me-up” highlighter. This product, however, is to be used with the Temptu airbrush machine.
Cream Highlighters | Best Highlighters
If pressed and liquid highlighters were to have a baby then it’s definitely the cream highlighter. It’s convenient in a way that you don’t have to worry about spilling when tossed in your makeup bag and it’s sturdy enough not to break in pieces. However, this one here is a little tricky to use because it can look patchy when not applied properly. What I love about this one though, is the natural effect it gives on my clients plus its longevity!
1. RMS Beauty Living Luminizer
The RMS Beauty Living Luminizer is a big hit with celebrities and supermodels, which means that it’s really good! This highlighter is formulated with coconut oil and rosemary extract to keep the skin hydrated. The pigment isn’t overwhelming as well with just the perfect amount of sheen. This one will melt onto your skin leaving a smooth and silky finish.
2. Benefit Watt’s Up!
Benefit has another awesome highlighter in its arsenal, but this one is a cream-based formula. The Watt’s Up highlighter is always included in the best highlighters list because of its formula and glow. It comes in a champagne hue that looks beautiful on every skin tone. The cream highlighter glides smoothly and effortlessly and turns into a powder finish afterward. What else? The dual-sided highlighter also comes with its own blender already!
3. NARS The Multiple in Copacabana
The NARS The Multiple highlighters stays true to its name. It is an effective multi-tasker and can get any job done without a hitch. Put in on your cheekbones, temples, or on the lids, The Multiple will give you that beautiful glow you need. And guess what, this cream highlighter has been proven to not cake at all! It’s definitely one of the best high-end cream highlighters to date.
4. NYX Wonder Stick
For a more affordable cream highlighter option, the NYX Wonder Stick will not disappoint. It’s a 2-in-1 contouring and highlighting product that does its job wonderfully! It’s easy to use, easy to blend, and easy on the wallet too! For makeup beginners, you can start out with this one.
Loose Highlighters | Best Highlighters
Not everyone is a fan of loose pigments, I for one, seldom use them simply because I don’t find it convenient to bring along. However, this form of makeup product is extremely pigmented and has many uses. Just like cooking LOL, you can add a pinch of loose highlighter to your liquid/cream foundation, lotion, and you’ll have a glowing base. The uses of this type of highlighter are endless and just really depends on your creativity.
1. NYX Pigments
Guess what? Pigments are so versatile that you can actually use them as highlighters too! We love the NYX Pigments as it’s super affordable and the pigments are packed with color! There are so many colors to choose from so you won’t have a hard time picking the right highlighter shade for your skin. On the other hand, if you’re looking for high-end pigments, you can never go wrong with MAC!
2. bareMinerals Clear Radiance
To be honest, I prefer using pressed powder highlighter or loose highlighters. I find them easier to work with especially when I already have my full-face makeup on. I’ve tried the bareMinerals Clear Radiance loose highlighter and I instantly fell in love with it. It’s one of those highlighters that give you a sunkissed glow… like you’ve been literally kissed by the sun! I’ve used this for a while until I met the Becca Skin Perfector. But still, I still use it from time-to-time.
3. Make Up For Ever Star Powder
One of my makeup pro friends mentioned to me how beautiful the Makeup For Ever Star Powder is. It does look like it’s heavily pigmented, doesn’t it? You’d be surprised how “just right” this one is. She told me the color payoff was off the roof and even if it was an investment due to its price, it really lasted long considering she always used this on her clients. Additionally, she also said that there’s no creasing or fading with this one.
