10 Time-Tested Tips to Take 10 Years off Your Skin
How to Look Younger at 40
Aging is only but natural. We will all go through it, it is just a matter of who gets there first. With that said, skin aging is inevitable. However, this doesn’t mean that we all just get to watch our beauty wither away over time. Ladies, we can do something about it!
With the right steps to proper skin care, you can delay the signs of aging and still age gracefully. Isn’t that what we all want?
Skin care for women in their 30s, 40s and 50s is not about buying the most expensive skin care products out there. Price doesn’t necessarily equate to effectiveness. To be frank, it’s more about the commitment in performing the everyday routine. And yes, it will take diligence and dedication on your part. BUT don’t worry, the steps are very basic.
So are you ready to hear the time-tested tips that will help take off the years of your skin? Here they are:
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 1: Wear less makeup. Follow a skin regimen instead.
A woman’s natural instinct to cover up the wrinkles, fine lines and dark circles is to hide them under tons of makeup. Sure, your concealer and foundation may do the job, but are you really fixing the problem here? Once you wipe the makeup off, there they are. Your aging skin is still staring back at you.
So instead of putting your money on makeup, invest on a goodskin regimen instead. Remember: If you have beautiful skin, you don’t need to hide under makeup anymore.
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 2: Clean your face properly.
Speaking of following a skin regimen, the first thing to do is get a cleanser. Whether you wear makeup on a daily basis or not, it is very important that you clean your face properly. Make it a habit to wash your face before hitting the sack. Don’t skip this!
For aging skin, it is recommended that you use a creamy cleanser instead. This is to avoid reducing the moisture you have on your facial skin. We really don’t want our skin to get drier and than it already is.
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 3: Keep your skin moisturized.
Skin ages faster when it is dry. From now on, do everything you can to avoid dry skin. You will be fighting your own body here. Due to the reduction of estrogen hormones in the body, the skin naturally dries on its own. So, you really have to find a solution for this.
Moisturizing is the best way to keep the skin lubricated. Have a day moisturizer and a night moisturizer. The day moisturizer will act like a shield on your face, protecting the skin from impurities. The night moisturizer helps your skin absorb all its goodness while you rest. Again, don’t skip this if you want your skin to have that youthful glow.
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 4: Put on eye cream.
As you may have already noticed, the eyes are where most of the signs of aging appear. There’s the crow’s feet, fine lines, wrinkles, hooded and saggy eye bags and dark circles. The reason being is that the skin around the eyes are very thin and always under stress. You need to pamper it every day.
After cleansing and moisturizing, it’s time to put on your eye cream. Do this before you sleep at night. Eye creams help moisturize the delicate skin around the eyes and can prevent the lines from going deeper. I’m serious, no skipping this!
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 5: Rub the sunscreen.
As if your hormones working against you isn’t bad enough, you have to contend with the power of the sun on a daily basis. Those UV rays from the sun is so damaging to the skin and if you know better, you should protect your skin especially your facial skin from it.
Aside from putting on a day moisturizer, put on some sunscreen too. While some are happy with applying a sunscreen with SPF 30 or 50, I strongly suggest that you get something way higher, around 80 or 100 should do. If you don’t like applying two products, there are moisturizers with SPF already. Also, if you like a bit of coverage, there are tinted moisturizers with SPF too.
Well, the sun isn’t slowing down and global warming isn’t very helpful too. So slather on your sunscreen every day, whether you’re at home or outside. No skipping this too!
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 6: Exfoliate weekly.
Finally, something you can officially skip from the list. Whew!
Exfoliating is a great way to remove dead skin that makes your skin look older than it really is. When it comes to wrinkles, it also helps remove the rough skin around it. Further, exfoliating can prevent and remove fine lines from skin dehydration.
However, you can only exfoliate once a week and doing it more than once won’t be good for your sensitive facial skin. When exfoliating, do it gently. Too much rubbing and scrubbing can leave the skin irritated.
So, exfoliate weekly ladies. Know that when those dead skin cells are removed, your skin care products can penetrate the skin better and can minimize pores too.
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 7: Always be hydrated.
I really need to reiterate that your skin is failing you. It’s drying up so fast and you’re fighting your own body from within. Even if you use all the essential skin care products to keep your skin moisturized, it won’t be effective unless you keep yourself hydrated all the time.
And when I say hydrate, I mean water. Drink plenty of water every day and as they say, eight glasses a day would be great.
Being hydrated isn’t just about satisfying that thirst and making sure your skin doesn’t dry up quickly. More than these, water helps hydrate your skin cells so it flushes away toxins while retaining the nutrients. Hence, your skin exudes that natural glow.
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 8: Take collagen.
It is a sad reality, but as we grow older, we need to take supplements too. And if you’re really concerned with your skin, you need to take collagen. Aging women continue to lose that elasticity in the skin, which is a reason why the facial skin tend to sag and droop over time. Collagen helps with the skin’s elasticity, which also equates to keeping the skin looking young and glowing.
If you really don’t like collagen supplements, go for topical vitamin A products instead. With this, you can simply apply it on your skin.
Just a word of caution: Before you buy any collagen supplements or topical vitamin A product, consult your dermatologist first.
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 9: Get as much sleep as you can.
Sleep is everyone’s best friend. But for us with aging skin, getting our beauty rest helps our body exercise its ability to self-heal.
When we sleep, our cells are repaired. When we sleep, our stress level is reduced. With the reduction of stress hormones, there will be less damage to our skin cells. So, get as much sleep as you can.
Aging Gracefully | How to Look Younger Step 10: Smile. Smile. Smile.
Do you know that more facial muscles work when you frown compared to when you smile? So, why would you want your face to undergo that stress if you can just keep on smiling right?
Smiling helps eliminate stress and worries, which also affects your skin. And not only that, smiling makes you more beautiful. No amount of makeup can cover up a sad soul. Smile away ladies and share that natural beauty deep inside you.
So there you have it, the very easy and effective ways to age gracefully. I really hope you stick to your regimen and do it religiously. By the way, if you’re wondering what skin care products to use, there’s really no right answer to it. Everyone’s skin is different, so you really have to find one that works for you.
