Mascara has long been in the market, we’re talking 400 BC, catering to women’s voluminous long lash needs.
Back then, in Ancient Egypt, mascara was composed of honey, crocodile stool, galena, malechite and charcoal.
If you’re wondering whether we’ve changed up the recipe, there’s no need to fret. We’ve come a long way with mascara. Especially considering the result of blindness from experimentation with paraphenylenediamine in the 30’s.

So, ladies and gents, let’s be ultra grateful that we now have safe mascara that is usually comprised of pigmentation, oils and wax. Ingredients vary from brand to brand, but these three ingredients are the standard base. And in order to celebrate this beautiful invention that women had to strain over, we’ve compiled a list of our absolute faves!
