Before we get to Taylor Swift’s Kanye West diss, let’s first talk about Selena Gomez’s incredible makeup.
Selena Gomez Grammys 2016 Makeup Tutorial
The recently concluded Grammy Awards 2016 was a success, but what really made headlines was Taylor Swift’s retaliation to Kanye West’s diss this past week. What I really liked was Selena Gomez’s reaction to Taylor’s win for Album Of The Year. Now that’s what I call a best friend.
Because I really appreciated her standing up for her best friend and I liked her makeup that night (wasn’t a fan of the dress, unfortunately), we are featuring a makeup tutorial inspired by Selena’s Grammys 2016 look.
If you’re fond of deep set eyes, you’ll really like this tutorial. This is also an easy look to recreate if if you’re heading out for a night about town.
Apply foundation. You may notice that the tutorial shows using a darker shade of foundation but that’s because she has a fake tan and wants her skin to look even. You can do that, but it might be better to stick to the shade that looks most natural (obviously, right?).
Once you’ve applied your foundation flawlessly, it’s time to apply your concealer. Put concealer under the eyes, on the top of the cheeks, the T-zone, on top of the lips, and below it. This is to achieve a highlighted effect. Make sure to blend in the concealer smoothly.
Shape, color and fill in the eyebrows. For this look, it is best to go a bit heavier on the brows.
Highlight more. This time, use highlighter and apply directly on the areas you applied your concealer. This will accentuate the highlighter’s glow.
There will be areas that look uneven, so you have to apply powder. Only apply powder on the areas where you didn’t put the darker shade foundation. On the other hand, if you didn’t use a darker shade foundie, go ahead and apply a setting powder.
Prime the eyes before applying eyeshadow. In this tutorial, a brown cream eyeshadow is used as a primer. But you can use any primer you have.
Before applying your main eyeshadow, you will need to apply a transition color first. Pick something that’s a mix of brown and orange.
To achieve Selena’s look, you will have to use 3 shades of brown on the eyes — these shades increase in darkness. Use the lightest brown shade as your base eyeshadow, applying it all over the eyelids. You can also blend the neutral brown eyeshadow and bring it a bit higher towards the crease.
For the darker shade of brown, apply it directly on the crease and blend upwards as well.
For the darkest shade of brown you’ll use, apply this on the topmost part of the eyes and continue blending in. The secret to making this look work is blending, blending, blending.
These eyes need to be dramatic. Use a black eyeshadow and apply on the crease to deepen the eyes further and create more drama. Apply the same shade on your bottom lash line.
Use a black eyeliner pencil to line the waterline and lash line. It is best to apply it as close as possible to the lash line. Don’t forget to apply on your bottom lash line too.
This bronze goddess look wouldn’t be complete without the bronzer. Dab some bronzer on your cheeks, temples and nose.
Give the face a more defined shape by contouring. Use contouring powder on the bottom of your cheekbones, forehead and along the bridge of your nose.
Blush and highlight. Apply the blush where you applied your bronzer (that is what Selena’s makeup artist did) and highlight the same area where you applied the blush.
With heavy eyes, you need a lighter shade for the lips. Go for something that’s a bit on the light brown side.
Don’t forget the mascara! You can opt to wear false lashes if you want.
And there you have it, a Selena Gomez Grammy 2016 makeup-inspired look.
What I really liked about this makeup tutorial is that it’s something you can wear to parties, formal occasions and evening dates. The shade is almost flattering to everyone and you can’t go wrong with brown. Hope you have fun doing this, ladies!
