Here’s how to keep your mane coiffed while you’re partying it up during Spring Break.
Spring Break Hair Styling Tips
Either you’re planning for your big vacation or passed out somewhere on the beach, but wherever you’re at there’s one thing you can’t deny: it’s Spring Break and you’re going to par-tay like it’s 1999 (great year).
Okay, so you have your waterproof makeup ready to go (you do have those ready to go, right?), your bag is packed and the bikini you just bought yesterday is on your bed, waiting to be worn. Now what?
Well, before you open that bottle of marshmallow-flavored vodka and start drinking like it’s 10 seconds till New Year, there’s one part of your trip you can’t neglect: your hair. You’re going to be partying, you’re going to be dancing and one thing you’re definitely going to be doing is sweating, so let’s avoid an Instagrammed Tina Turner hair disaster and instead channel our inner Gisele Bundchen and let those lovely locks fall freely (with the right products, of course).
Here’s how to keep your mane coiffed every day of your rowdy vacation.
1. Leave-In Conditioner Is Your Sunscreen
Ironically enough, the last thing one ever does during vacation is relax and this is especially the case for holidays like Spring Break (you know, the holidays that aren’t really holidays). So while you may think you’ll have ample time to wash your hair, do a hair mask, spray this, rub that, and then style your hair, you’re dead wrong (sorry!). Leave-in conditioner is a great way to skip all of the other steps you’d normally do, yet still keep your tresses hydrated and protected. Our leave-in of choice? eSalon’s Perfect Ending Leave-In Conditioner.
2. Bobby Pins Really Are A Girl’s Best Friend
Forget diamonds; it’s the bobby pins we’re after! Even though bobby pins have a penchant for disappearing and deserting us in our time of need, we can’t help but love them anyway. When you’re out and about, a couple of carefully-placed bobby pins will give you manageable, great-looking hair.
3. Invest In Anti-Frizz Serum
PREACH! Yes, anti-frizz, dehumidifying, manageability, whatever it’s called, get it. Your hair will need it, especially if you’re traveling somewhere hot and humid like Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (do people still go to Ft. Lauderdale for Spring Break?). My serum of choice is Bumble & Bumble’s Defrizz serum which tames my flyaways and manages my wavy hair.
4. Bring Some Baby Powder With You
It doesn’t have to be baby powder, it can be dry shampoo but do be sure you have something to clear away the oil and grease that will collect on your hair after hours of dancing and sunbathing. Baby powder is an instant go-to as some dry shampoo formulas can be tricky, but if you’ve already found one that works for you, bring it with you.
5. Bring Only The Essentials
If your hair can be managed with a bit of leave-in and texturizing spray, awesome! If you have natural hair, vegetable glycerin is supposed to work wonders at keeping your curls’ bounce and shape. However you style your hair, be sure to bring only the essential products you need to get your hair looking camera-ready.
6. Of Course You Should Bring Your Argan/Moroccan Oil
You weren’t thinking about leaving it at home, were you? What did we say about bringing the essentials? Sagan knows Moroccan oil is a hair essential. This liquid gold keeps hair soft and manageable.
7. You’re Going To Need A Cold Shower
And not because the hottie you’ve been eyeing all night has finally said hi to you. Your hair and skin love cold water; it leaves your skin soft and hair shiny. To avoid damaging your hair further, always be sure to rinse in cold water. It may be uncomfortable, but your shiny, Amanda Seyfried-like hair will thank you later.
8. Don’t Underestimate The Power Of A Good Updo
It’s an assumption that the only sexy hairstyle is one where the hair is worn down. That’s not necessarily true. There are so many beautiful updos that can pass as both stylish, sophisticated and alluring (if that’s what you’re going after ‘n all), that you shouldn’t feel forced to wear your hair down, especially when it’s greasy enough to cook bacon on. And that’s it, ladies! Whenever you’re traveling, it’s important to remember that less really is more! Stick to the bare essentials and your hair will make it to post-Spring Break Monday.
The question is… will you make it to post-Spring Break Monday?
