Every Fall Beauty Trend That’s Easy on the Pocket
1. Barely There Makeup
Fall is my laid-back season, and I guess I can also speak for hundreds of ladies out there. It’s an awesome time to relax, meet with friends and family, travel for a holiday, and just have fun. The best makeup for that is the barely-there look or the natural makeup.
Basically, you’re still wearing makeup, but the shades are similar to your skin tone. Thus, you appear as if you’re not wearing any. It’s a great way to appear fresh and casual.
For the look: L’oreal Magic Lumi Primer ($10.54), Covergirl Eye Enhancers ($2.49), Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer ($5.99), NYX Cosmetics Soft Matte Lip Cream Cairo ($6.85)
2. Flushed Dewy Skin
I love to appear radiant or glowing (seriously, who doesn’t, right?), and the best way to do that, aside from taking excellent care of your skin, is to apply dewy makeup. This is somewhat similar to the barely-there look, except there’s a secret: strobing or highlighting.
By doing that, you allow light to “bounce” off your skin, creating a glowing effect! You also need to tame your use of powder makeup, choose the best foundation for your skin, and go for something cream-based if your skin allows it.
Make sure to apply a natural-looking blush to achieve the flush that will make you look radiant.
For the look: Maybelline New York Fit Me! Foundation in Cream Beige ($6), L’Oreal Paris Magic Lumi Highlighter Concealer ($12.95), Maybelline New York Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Touch of Spice ($4.29), e.l.f. Studio Baked Blush in Pinktastic ($11.02) and NYX Cosmetics Butter Lip Gloss in Creme Brulee ($4.97)
3. Blue Eyeshadow
Last year, the trend was all about dark bold eyeshadows, from burgundies to metallics, reds, greens, golds, and oranges. However, this year it’s about retro blue shade for your gorgeous eyes.
For the look: Revlon PhotoReady Eye Art Lid+Line+Lash, Midnight Glitz ($4.69)
4. Stained Lips
Remember when I said this year’s fall beauty trend can also be a classic? This is one of them, but with a twist! If you love a classic red lipstick, then you’re in luck. I think one of the reasons for its popularity is the increasing trend of barely-there or natural makeup. But don’t worry, no one’s going to arrest you if you go for something edgy like grunge (and you’ll learn more of this later).
If you don’t like red, you can pick something darker like plum, aubergine or purple, mauve, and berry. These colors can create a vampy, sexy fall look, more so if you pair it with this season’s nail colors.
Just remember the key to this look is the application it has to be smudged so it will look stained instead of the full opaque shade.
For the look: ELF Matte Lip Color in Rich Red ($6.99), Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Moisturizing Lipstick in Crimson Coast ($7.63), Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick in Berry Haute ($4.97)

5. Twiggy Eyelashes
There are a lot of old looks that are making a comeback over the last few years, like printed pants and dresses, pantsuits, and even bell-bottoms. When it comes to makeup, though, this is probably one of my favorites because I love Twiggy!
In case you don’t know her, go to Google and learn more about this 60s fashion icon. As a homage to her amazing style, Twiggy lashes are trendy this year!
For the look: Kaasage Eyelash Curler ($5.99), BEPHOLAN 3 Pairs Multi-layered Faux Mink Lashes ($7.99), Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara Black ($6.17)
6. Disco Eyes
I’ll be honest: I can’t for the life of me ever thought this is going to be a fall beauty trend. In fact, I never imagined this makeup look would ever exist! But more women are actually applying glitters. To make it even more bizarre, a lot are applying glitter tears, which for me is a bit extreme. Nevertheless, if you fancy glitters, I’ve got two looks for you.
First, we have a Harry Potter-inspired makeup, simply because “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is in theaters this week (go watch it with your kiddos this Thanksgiving!). And I do like the way the yellow glitter eyeliner works.
PS: Just to let you know, you can apply glitter on other parts of your face like your lips or your cheeks too. 🙂
For the look: Coosa Glitter Liquid Eyeliner (5 pcs) ($8.99), Crushed Silver Jewel – Holographic Cosmetic Grade Fine Glitter Powder (8.95)
7. Full Bushy Brows
As a makeup artist, I’ve probably seen almost all types of brows: thin or pencil, no brows, colored brows, etc. And one of them is part of our fall beauty trend list. 🙂 This one is called bushy or boyish brows (Yup, the queen of bushy brows Cara Delevigne is my best example) since, well, they’re thicker than the more modern styled brows.
Many also like to call this look natural, but that doesn’t mean this doesn’t need any maintenance. You still have to do some tweaking just to get rid of the stray brows and to comb it to fill in the sparse areas, or you can use matte eyeshadow. For a more polished look, finish your makeup with a highlighter.
For the look: Etude House Drawing Eye Brow ($4.91), MILLY Slanted Tip Stainless Steel Tweezers ($6.97)
Bonus: Dark Vampy Makeup
On the opposite side of our makeup spectrum, we have dark makeup like grunge. Grunge is another oldie-but-goodie fashion look that was huge back in the 90s. It’s a bit gothic, but it plays around with colors more.
As an example, you can pair your dark smoky eyes with a very bright red lipstick. Another way is to pair a nude lippy with a winged or smudged eye line. For an everyday look, you can have soft grunge.
For the look: W7 In The Night Smokey Shades Palette ($6.99)
