Rose Gold Hair At Home
The Quick & Easy Hair Trend You’ll Fall In Love With This Fall!
After years of contemplating, I finally decided to dye my hair a fun nonconventional color. My hair is extremely stubborn (and also very damaged) so my dreams of becoming a light pink pixie head are pretty much unachievable without Kim Kardashian West’s arsenal of experts on speed dial, so I opted for the simple at home solution alternative: ROSE GOLD HAIR. Rose gold is the color you get when you add light pink hair dye to bleached brunette hair, aka the perfect fix for awkward hair dye limbo; AKA the perfect solution for an awkward DIY girl like me.
Products for Rose Gold Hair
Your first order of business is getting your hands on L’Oreal Paris Hair Color Feria Pastels Dye, Smokey Pink P2. I’ve only heard good things about L’Oreal’s Feria line, so I trusted them. (Back Story) About 1 year ago I unsuccessfully went platinum. I got the first process done at a salon, it turned orange so I got it touched up and toned by a friend. I have dark brunette hair, so my first mistake was expecting the change to happen in one go. My second mistake was not trusting my instincts and doing it myself (remember, I’m the DIY girl).
So after a few months of brassy blonde hair I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and I used the L’Oreal Feria Absolute Platinums Hair Color, Extreme Platinum to ombré my way to blonder locks. This did the trick! For the first time in my life, I was blonde, and I was having more fun! (Just kidding, everyone can have as much fun as they want no matter their hair color.)
Now that it’s been a year, and summer is drawing to a close, I’ve decided to step into the DIY Hair Dye realm once again, this time with some color. As I mentioned before, ideally I’d be platinum, but that just isn’t possible and I’ve accepted defeat. So the next best solution is light pink. Again, this is not attainable unless you are platinum – buyers beware – so I’m opting for rose gold. Rose Gold happens to be one of the prettiest colors in existence, and it’s totally trending right now FYI.
I just wanted to tell you this story to remind you all of the importance of starting with a very light base.
How To Dye Rose Gold Hair Yourself
So you get your L’Oreal Feria Pastels Dye in Smokey Pink. You double check that your strands are light enough, and you dye away! The instructions are always included with the box. If this is your first time just follow along, it’s quite simple, don’t be scared! You simply put your gloves on, mix your concoction, shake it up real good, and apply it to your hair. Then you wait the allotted time (this time it’s 20 minutes), rinse it out, and add your conditioner!
More DIY Hair Dying Tips
- I have a ceramic sink, I like to use this as a workstation because it’s less likely to stain.
- Put an old towel down if you’re concerned about our countertop getting colored.
- Drape another towel over your shoulders and tight around your neck so you don’t get any hair dye on your skin.
- I have a special towel I use every time I mess with my hair so I don’t care what color it turns.
- Always keep your gloves on, keep the products away from your eyes, and off your skin as much as possible.
The rest is pretty straightforward, let’s check out the pics!
Before (Messy Ombre Hair)
I had ombre brunette to blonde hair. (This was after 4 different lifting experiences, this is as light as it will probably ever go). Don’t spend too much time judging me, I confess this is an at home job! P.S. I don’t hate my hair, I actually love it, but it’s time for something new!
And After… Rose Gold Hair!
Now I’ve got rose gold ombre hair! I know you’re curious to see all the dimensions of my rose gold color, so I’ll bombard you with a few more selfies.
Here I am out in the sunshine 1 day later, the color is a perfect pale rose gold. I’m really happy with the result!
Different layers of my highlights even catch in the sun!
The wind picked up my highlights!
Rose gold hair, rose gold sunglasses.
While we’re talking about popular hairstyles, I thought I’d include the biggest updo hair trend of 2015 – the half bun!
Cheers ladies! Hope you find this tutorial helpful. I’m going to go stack on my rose gold bangles and my rose gold jacket and go back to staring at my rose gold smartphone now. Don’t you love when everything matches?
