Shades of Berry
You’re in the makeup aisle looking for the best lipstick color to wear as your nude just isn’t cutting it anymore. We’ve all been in this position — browsing, telling ourselves we’re going to buy something completely different from our usual go-to, we’re going to expand our makeup collection and finally try that bright coral or rich berry color we’ve been eyeing since last year, but when it comes down to it, you opt for the same lipstick, the one you already have in varying shades and multiple brands.
Well, hate to break it to you, but it’s time for a change. It’s time to get a little color into your life, it’s time to mix it up and have some fun.
While I love nudes (insert sexual joke here), I’ve also wanted to get my hands on a berry lip color.
Berry lipsticks, or bright lipsticks in general, make you look younger and your teeth whiter. It’s true!
The blue undertones in berry lipstick have a whitening effect on your teeth. But in addition to those two major benefits, berry lipsticks are the color of the season — they’re pretty, they’re versatile, they’re berry!
Many of us are probably thinking: Can I get away with a berry lip? And the answer is a resounding YES.
Anyone at any age with any skin tone can pull off a berry lip and look great while doing it. The trick to nailing a berry lip color is knowing which shade of berry best suits your skin tone.
Let’s start lipstick shopping!
Light Skin Tones
Your perfect shade will be a berry color with a hint of red.
If you have light skin with pink or yellow undertones you want to go for a lip color that is in the berry family with a hint of red. All berry lip colors have a base of red, purple or pink.
For light complexions with pink undertones you want a berry with red undertones. This will counteract with the pink and yellow undertones in your skin tone to give you a more vibrant complexion.

Medium Skin Tones
Your perfect shade will be berry with plum undertones.
Medium skin tones tend to have yellow undertones in them. Because of this, you want to go for a warm berry with a hint of plum in it.
The hints of purple will cancel out any yellow in your complexion, giving you a more even skin tone with a natural-looking glow instead of accentuating the yellow that is already in your skin.
Dark Skin Tones
Your perfect shade will be berry with a hint of pink.
What is the best lipstick for dark skin? Darker skin tones tend to have orange undertones, so you’ll want the best pink lipstick with a touch of berry.
Deep berries with a hint of pink will work beautifully with deep skin tones as the pink will cancel out the orange in your skin. When you cancel out the orange pigmentation in the skin you will have a more beautiful, even-looking complexion.
In-Between Skin Tones
If you happen to be in between colors such as medium light or medium dark, choose the best lipstick color that will counteract your undertone. If you have a yellow undertone go for a color that has a hint of red or plum.
For orange undertones go for a berry with a hint of pink. If you follow these simple rules, you will look amazing for any occasion.
