Have you been thinking about adding hyaluronic acid serum to your anti-aging beauty routine? We’ve got the low down on what hyaluronic acid serum is and, most importantly, if it’s the miracle ingredient everyone claims it to be.
What Is Hyaluronic Acid Serum and Does It Work?
Hyaluronic Acid Serum is flying off the shelves; here’s why you need to get your hands on a bottle, or 3…
When it comes to skincare and establishing a beauty regimen, it can be a hassle trying to figure out what products are best at targeting which skincare concerns and, ultimately, if those products even work. This is compounded by the fact that after you have your products, the next obstacle is formulating a skincare regimen that’s right for your skin type. But never fear, ladies – that’s why we’re here to help!
The Aging Process
Did you know that your skin begins to lose its elasticity in your mid 20s? Yup, it’s true. In your mid 20s, collagen production slows, and elastin, the substance that enables the skin to snap back into place, starts to lose its youthful spring. Your skin will lose its ability to spring back to its original form – one reason why preventative care needs to start as soon as you enter your 20s.
Remember, the earlier you start taking care of your skin, the slower you will age. As you may have heard, facial serums are one of the most effective ways of slowing down the aging process. Facial serums help hydrate your skin and keep it moisturized for prolonged periods of time. With a good facial serum in your medicine cabinet (or vanity!), you can rewind the signs of aging.
Choosing the Right Facial Serum
An effective facial serum will keep most layers of your skin moisturized, penetrating the surface level unlike most creams and moisturizers. During my quest to find the HG of anti-aging ingredients, I came across Hyaluron Serum. Hyaluron Serum has become one of the most popular, best-rated anti-aging ingredients found in many facial serums due to its potency and effectiveness (resulting in skin benefits you can start seeing after a couple of weeks of regular use).
The Benefits of Hyaluron Serum
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our bodies and can be found in our skin and joints. When applied topically, hyaluron serum can aid the skin in absorbing and retaining water. The ingredient also plumps out wrinkles and fine lines, resulting in smoother, more supple skin.
Hyaluron serum can either be ingested via pill form, applied topically (the most potent and effective way of applying the acid is through a serum), or injected.
This facial serum would work on any skin type, regardless of age. For those in their early/late 20s, a hyaluronic acid serum like Peter Thomas Roth Intensive Hydrating Acid Complex would be the best tool to have in your preventative skincare kit. This particular serum is especially great for those with acne-prone skin as its light, watery and non-comedogenic. The same product could be used for ladies in their 50s, looking to turn back the hands of time.
How To Use Hyaluronic Acid Serum
While the serum works for any skin type, below are some things to keep in mind:
- For gals with oily skin, mix your HA serum with a light moisturizer to avoid looking like an oil slick (you’ll still get the same benefits, we promise!). Also, use less of the product as it is an oil-based serum.
- For those with normal to dry skin, apply the serum as you would any facial product (pat the serum into your skin, do not smear) after your face is clean and dry.
If you are looking to target a specific area, take a tiny drop of the serum, apply it on your ring finger and dab the oil into the desired area. All it takes is one dab to instantly hydrate and revitalize your skin! Once you find the exact brand and formula that’s right for you, you’ll instantly know because your skin will be baby soft, smooth and wrinkle-free!
Hyaluronic Acid Side Effects
In regards to hyaluronic acid’s side effects, it is, regardless of method of administration, safe to use for the majority of people. If you are breastfeeding, please do not use HA serum as it can potentially be unsafe, but that is yet to be confirmed. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring compound, so if any side effects do occur, they will most likely be mild and will be gone in several days.
