Post-gym plans? Here are beauty routine tips on getting your workout in and not looking like a sweaty mess afterwards.
Post-Gym Beauty Routine: How to Look Good After a Workout
Squeezing a workout into your schedule is tough; but what’s even tougher is having to re-do your entire beauty routine after having hit the elliptical for 30 minutes straight. For those who don’t have a gym at home (read as: all of us), you know the struggle of having to look decent as you ran errands after a sweaty sesh at the gym. From stopping those sweat beads from falling to cleaning your skin to getting yourself “gym glam” in seconds, fit beauties know that the struggle is real.
This is dedicated to ladies who hit the gym, love their skin, love themselves, and need some tips on building a post-gym beauty routine. Don’t worry, ‘cos we’re spotting you. š
1. Fixing Your Hair
Before doing anything else, take care of your hair. By the time your workout is done, your hair is most likely out of its ponytail, on your face, and dripping with sweat. After a workout, run dry shampoo through your hair and pull that baby back into a bun or braid. If your hair is wet, pulling it into a braid will create loose waves once it dries.

2. Clean That Face Up
If there are showers available, take one; but if you’re too lazy to strip down in public or would rather head straight home, take some wet wipes and micellar water with you. The wet wipes can be used to clean your face, but are recommended for use on the body, while micellar water, which is more gentle in its formula, can be used to remove sweat, dirt and oil.
Don’t forget to cool down, too. Especially if working out turns you redder than a tomato. After a workout, allow yourself some time to decompress, give your face a splash of cold water (that will reduce the size of your pores!), and glug that bottle of alkaline water you brought with you for hydration.
3. Skin Care
Not everyone will be into this step, especially at the gym, but your post-gym skincare routine doesn’t stop at micellar water. Exfoliation is one of the most important steps in any beauty routine and yes, exfoliating after a workout is a great ideaĀ because it will excavate lingering impurities allowing your skin to be cleaner and smoother than before. Apply your favorite moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and, if your eyes are puffy, some eye cream for safe measure.
4. Perfect That Minimalist Makeup Routine
The only beauty products you need to look good after a workout is primer, Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint or loose powder (for shine), waterproof mascara, and a tinted lip balm.
As for blush, I personally don’t think you need one since your cheeks will already have a natural flush. If you can’t live without eyeshadow, opt for an opalescent eyeshadow in neutral shades like a MAC Eyeshadow in Nylon, L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Strawberry Blonde, or MAC Eyeshadow in Shroom.
Other than that, keep it as minimal as possible. This probably isn’t the best time for a red lip.
When it comes to tinted lip balm, our go-tos are always Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me, Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Rhubarb or Raisin, or Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya. These colors are soft, perfect for any skin tone, and are a super simple way to elevate your post-gym look.
Next time you hit the grocery store after having worked out your glutes, no one will be any the wiser that you just came from the gym. In fact, this routine will get you that “Gigi Hadid off-duty model” look and, personally, we’re okay with that.
