Sometimes achieving flawless coverage is hard, especially when your skin doesn’t cooperate. So, I found this face makeup tutorial from Cosmetics by Mackenzie as a good example of how to achieve a look with total coverage.

It is quite on the heavy side, but as Mackenzie points out, she doesn’t use this technique for every day; instead, she reserves this for days when she feels like going a bit more all out.

You’ll find this video by Cosmetics by Mackenzie quite helpful!

Here’s what you’ll need for this face makeup tutorial:

  • Cover FX Custom Blot Drops
  • Benefit Porefesional
  • NYX Color Correcting Concealer
  • Makeup Forever Mat Velvet
  • Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless
  • Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops “Moonlight”
  • Mac Pro Longwear Concealer

  • ABH Powder Contour “Light to Medium”
  • Laura Mercier Translucent Powder

Step 1: Prime Skin

As always for heavy duty makeup wear, prime your skin with good priming products. In this face makeup tutorial, Mackenzie used the Benefit Porefessional around the sides of her nose and the CoverFX Custom Blot Drops and applied it on the T-zone area.

Step 2: Color Correct

Correcting discolorations on her face by using NYX Color Correcting Concealer, she applied the green color corrector to neutralize the reds and the peach color to neutralize the blue tones under her eyes and proceeded to blend them out with a Beauty Blender.

Step 3: Foundation

Foundation is like choosing what to wear for what occasion, the foundation this face makeup tutorial used is the Makeup Forever Mat Velvet foundation and the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation mixed together to create a custom color that suits her skin. She also added a drop of Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in “Moonlight” to add a bit of dewiness to the finish. Going through her face with a Beauty Blender to apply the foundation evenly.

Step 4: Concealer

When necessary, go over blemish spots with concealer, in this face makeup tutorial, Mackenzie used the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer to further hide blemish spots around her face.

Step 5: Contour and Highlight

After you’re sure that your base is flawless go ahead and apply your highlights and contour shades to sculpt your face make sure to blend out as much as possible to avoid harsh lines and then set your contour and highlight shades with powder. In this face makeup tutorial, Mackenzie used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Contour palette in Light and the ABH Powder Contour to set.

Step 6: Set Your Makeup

Using the luxurious Laura Mercier Translucent Powder set the makeup in place by dusting the powder all over the face. This step makes me think of all the luxurious clothing I found just recently.

Step 7: Blusher

Add a pop of color by applying a powder blusher to the apples of your cheeks, this face makeup tutorial used NYX HD Blush in Intuition.

Step 8: Highlighter Glow

Add some glow to the high planes of the face by dusting highlight powder over it like the Becca Rose Quartz and the Jeffree Star highlighter in Ice Cold as used by Mackenzie in this face makeup tutorial. Add more razzle and dazzle to your look with these rhinestone nails.

It all boils down to your process and really largely on the products you use. Even though I am not a stickler for products I have to point out that there really are products that work better than others. That plus your own technique and process is what creates the perfect flawless face makeup.

Face charts for makeup artists are an essential toolkit. Toss in the trash the binders full of paper Face Charts, with Canvasses lacking in Diversity. Go digital and become tech savvy. Get the Face Chart App with Canvasses designed for a Diversity of faces. For a mobile and on-the-go artist, keeping your face charts on paper can be tedious – ESPECIALLY when you have back to back wedding clients. For film productions, TV shoots, and other events nothing beats having a digitized version of the face chart that is not expensive and cumbersome. You can brainstorm looks and generate ideas that will work for your clients.
