Are you part of the aging generation today? On the hunt for a skincare regimen, that’s right for you? Mature and aging skin have special needs and I’ve rounded up 7 tips to help you build the perfect skincare regimen!
A lot of you are aware that skin aging is a natural process. We can’t really prevent it from happening because of what experts call intrinsic aging. However, you can actually slow down this process by taking care of your skin. There are many ways to properly take care of your mature skin and here are what I believe are the most important.
7 Tips to Build the Perfect Skincare Regimen For Mature Skin
Skin aging is a natural process brought about by intrinsic aging. This type of aging happens as one grows older and loses the function of certain molecules, proteins, and enzymes in the body. For the skin, mature skin loses its elasticity, firmness, and suppleness, leading to sagging and the formation of wrinkles or fine lines. Aside from skin surface changes, the color of the skin might change too as a result of pigmentation.
For ladies who are developing signs of skin aging, you can slow this through building the perfect skincare regimen that aims to reduce wrinkles, improve the skin’s ability to hold in moisture and prevent skin sagging. Skincare regimens for mature skin revolve around basic tenets that include living a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise, moisturizing, and using the right products for your skin type. Here are 7 tips that I personally think will help you fight skin aging.
1. Moisturize Your Skin
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Dry skin and loss of collagen in aging skin are the biggest concerns to address when building your skincare routine. For mature skin, it’s incredibly important to keep yourself well moisturized in order to avoid or lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Here’s a list of the best moisturizers for dry skin maybe you can try one from the list!
2. Less is More: Loosen Up With Heavy Makeup
Wearing the same amount of makeup you did in your 20s is probably not the best idea when it comes to maturing skin. Makeup drags on the skin resulting in wrinkles and sagging. The focus for mature skin should be on skincare, not makeup, so wear less and be sure to wash your face every night before hitting the hay!
- [ HYDRATING FACE WASH ] Daily face wash with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and glycerin to help hydrate skin without stripping moisture. Removes face makeup, dirt, and excess oil, provides 24-hour hydration and leaves a moisturized, non-greasy feel.
3. Drink Water
Water is life, so with that knowledge in mind, drink up! Water replenishes and hydrates dry skin (the biggest issue when it comes to mature skin), resulting in a smooth, plump, youthful-looking visage.
4. Exfoliate
Exfoliating at least 2-3 times a week will lead to more immediate anti-aging results as exfoliation removes dead skin cells and rejuvenates the skin that lies beneath. So, exfoliate and hydrate!
5. Wear Sunscreen
It doesn’t matter what age you are, sunscreen should always be the first thing you put on your face before stepping out. This is one of the most important products to incorporate into your daily beauty routine. The sun’s rays are harsh and can accelerate the aging process leading to crow’s feet, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation.
6. Use Appropriate Skincare Products
Use products geared towards maturing skin and its issues. Cream cleansers are gentle and great for dry skin, serums are highly concentrated and will aid in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, and a light moisturizer with Vitamin C, peptides, and antioxidants will keep your skin hydrated, healthy and glowing throughout the day. Your nighttime routine should involve a cream, serum, and retinol.
7. Live A Happy Life
My grandpa had the softest, most amazing wrinkle-free skin for his age; he practically looked like he was in his 30’s. How do you ask? He lived happily and only did things he enjoyed doing! Living happily is the secret to eternal youth as stress is known to wear down the body’s internal processes, leading to sagging, loose skin, and an older-looking, grumpy you. So, enjoy the precious gift that is life and live happily!
