Routines can make us feel secure and comfortable, but many of us stress over how we will style our makeup. Ditch the stress and try this simple eyeshadow look, guaranteed to flatter and take the stress out of getting ready in the A.M.
Basic Eyeshadow Tutorial For Beginners
Supplies you will need to get the best eyeshadow look:
- Medium-sized Eyeshadow Brush
- Variety of Eyeshadows (or your favorite palette)
- White Eyeliner
- Brown Eyeliner
- Mascara
Step 1: Brighten it up!
We are going to begin by selecting a highlight color. Select a color 2-3 shades lighter than your skin, with a gold undertone to it. Using too cool of a highlight color can sometimes appear grey on the skin, and instead or accenting an area, it will recess it. Using your brush, apply the highlight color just underneath the arch of your eyebrow. This will create the illusion of a larger eyelid area. Apply the same color to the inner corners of the eye. This will brighten the eyes and help to camouflage darkness. Before applying, tap the excess shadow from the brush to avoid extra shadow falling onto your cheeks. (This can be hard to remove)
Step 2: Add some pizazz
Next, we are going to select a color close to our skin tone with a bit of shimmer to draw attention to the eyes. Apply this color over the eyelid. For this example I used a champagne color.
Step 3: Add depth by contouring!
Using a neutral taupe color, apply to the crease of the eye. This can best be found by looking straight into the mirror and see where the fold of the eye is. Blend this color up into the brow highlight. This will exaggerate the depth of the eye and create a more dimensional look.
Step 4: Bigger eyes Ahoy!
Now we are going to apply white eyeliner to the waterline of the eye. The waterline is the inner rim of the bottom eyelid. This will exaggerate the whites of the eyes and make your eyes appear bright and large. It is important that you do not share eyeliner with others, as it is easy to spread germs and contract conjunctivitis.
Step 5: Line ’em up
To further create the illusion of large eyes, line directly under your lashes with brown liner. This creates a drop shadow effect to get you looking doe eyed and glamorous.
Step 6: Mascara’s the perfect touch
To finish off the eye, apply mascara. Start at the base of the lash and comb the lashes in a zigzag motion. Comb through until all lashes are evenly coated without clumps. Mascara should be replaced every month to avoid bacteria growing inside the tube. If your lashes are long, cover your eyelid with a spoon as you apply the mascara.
There you have it, a neutral eye that dares you to stare. Try out this simple look and tell us your thoughts!
