Red smokey eye makeup is probably one of the more intimidating looks you can think of as far as smokey eyes go. Understandably so because red is not the most natural color to put on the eyes.
However, it is not at all impossible to look glam and gorgeous using smokey red eyeshadow. Since it’s right around time for summer, I thought I’d share with you a really simple red smokey eye tutorial.

Easy Red Smokey Eye Look That Is Summer Ready
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette
- Urban Decay – Relish
- Sigma gel liner – wicked
- House of Lashes – Allure Lite
- Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick – Fair Game
Step 1: Transition Shade
The first palette Paulina used is the Morphe Jaclyn Hill palette with the shade “Silk Creme” going on the crease area to create a transition shade.
She defines this further by picking up the shade “Hunts” and applies this on the crease area as well to create a warmer tone.
Step 2: Smokey Red Eyeshadow
Once the transition shade is done, you can pick up the main red color that you will use in the center of the eyelid. In this tutorial, the red eyeshadow is Relish by Urban Decay Cosmetics.
Layer it on the lid and make sure that the color is opaque. Blend it lightly towards the crease so that it melds nicely with the transition shade.
Step 3: Lower Lid Smudge
Go over the lower lid using the shade Hunts from the Jacklyn Hill palette and smoke it out all along the lash line. Create depth on the lower lid by putting the Urban Decay Relish eyeshadow on the lower lash. Make sure to smoke it out to create a sultry look.
Step 4: Brow Highlight
From the Morphe palette, take the color “Beam” and place it on the brow bone. This creates a beautiful balance to the boldness of the red smokey eye look.

Step 5: Winged Eyeline
There are different ways to create a winged eyeliner, in this tutorial, Paulina used the gel liner from Sigma in the shade Wicked. Create a wing by swiping your angled liner brush from the inner corner of the eye to the outer. Along with this, don’t forget to line your upper and lower waterline.
Step 6: Inner Corner Sparkle
Put a light shimmer color on the inner corner of the eye. In this red smokey eye tutorial, Paulina used Faint from the Morphe palette and used it on the upper inner corner of her eyes.
Step 7: Glam Lashes
After putting on mascara, apply a full set of lashes on your eyes for added effect. House of Lashes “Allure Light” created a beautiful wispy effect on Paulina’s eyes.
Step 8: Put Your Lipstick On
A good balance is key to strong, bold looks. Using a nude color lipstick is an excellent way to tone down the whole look. The Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick ‘Fair Game’ really matched Paulina’s skin tone well. Make sure to use a nude lipstick that will not look pasty on your lips.
Paulina had previously applied the foundation and groomed her brows. She’s also put a highlight on the high points of her face using Mac Cosmetics Hyper Real Glow Palette in Flash + Awe.

As you can see, red eyeshadow is not that intimidating after all. Make sure to use warmer reds to keep the look more wearable.
