The Only Way You Should Be Washing 3c Curly Hair
3C curly hair is the most misunderstood hair type, caught between curly and kinky hair. Until recently, it was unrepresented and up until remains a tad bit misunderstood. It’s more tightly coiled than 3B ringlets, but its corkscrew shape is not as densely packed as zigzag-shaped kinky hair.
What You’ll Need:
- The Mane Choice Tropical Shampoo
- Wet brush
- Camille Rose Deep Conditioner
- Denman brush
- Camille Rose Moisture Milk
- Camille Rose Moisture Butter
- Zotos All About Curl Gel
- Tru Edge Control
How To Wash 3C Curly Hair:
- Soak your hair in water. Brush your hair from the tips working your way up to the roots. This will gently detangle your locks.
- Use a sulfate-free shampoo or a moisturizing shampoo and massage it into your scalp thoroughly. Use your knuckles to kneed your scalp so you avoid scratching yourself. Focus on your scalp rather than your lengths, allowing the lather to naturally fall from your roots to your tips. Sulfates tend to strip your hair of much needed moisture. Because curly hair is characterized by dry tresses, stick to shampoos for natural hair or moisturizing and hydrating shampoos. If your hair is feeling extra dry and brittle, look into co-washing.
- Use a deep conditioning treatment or a daily conditioner after washing your hair. Apply it to the entire length. Skip the shampoo or wash your hair with conditioner (co-washing) if your hair is dry.
- While letting your hair soak in conditioner, brush your hair with a Wet brush or a detangling brush.
- Put your hair up in a bun and let the conditioner rest. Rinse off the conditioner after an hour.
- Section your hair so that you can distribute the following products evenly. However, you section your hair – whether in twos or fours – depends on you.
- Next, apply your leave-in conditioner. In this tutorial, we’re using the Camilla Rose Moisture Milk.
- Follow it up with the Camille Rose Moisture Butter to keep your hair soft and bouncy. We’re doubling up on moisturizing products because curly hair tends to get dry.
- Now that we’ve tackled moisture, it’s time to lock down those curls. So now apply curl gel all over your lengths. Run your fingers through your hair to make sure each strand is soaked in product.
- Repeat steps 7-10 on each section of your hair.
- Finally, apply gel or pomade on your baby hairs along the hairline with a toothbrush. This will help tame them, keeping them close to your scalp.
Tips for Maintaining 3C Curly Hair
1. Hands Off
This goes without saying – do not brush curly hair once dried unless you’re fluffing your hair from the roots.
Refrain from running your hands through your hair. As tempting as it is, tugging and pulling on your hair may lead to damage and breakage.
This is is why the best hairstyle for natural hair braids with low maintenance and manipulation. Other than that, claws away from the crown.
2. Stay Away From Heat
Heat and straightening tools will damage your 3C curly hair, loosening the rings and leaving your hair limp and frizzy over time.
Regaining your lost curls will require plenty of care, self-control, and time. Depending on how well you take care of your locks, you may have to grow out virgin hair to see your original curls again.
If you’ll be applying heat to your hair, make sure to apply some heat protection first. The same idea goes for a day at the beach. The sun may contribute to damage, moisture loss and result to dry and lackluster tresses. Wear a wide-rimmed, sun-protective hat to shield your hair from the sun and to stay on top of trends.
Also make sure that you apply a diffusing attachment to your blowdryer.
3. Wash Your Hair Once a Week at Most
Because the shape of 3C curly hair aren’t optimized to distribute oil from your scalp, curly hair is prone to dryness.
Even though you use a moisturizing shampoo on your shampoo days, you may still be stripping your hair of moisture.
If it’s urgent that you wash your hair, the next tip is made for you.
4. Learn to Love Co-Washing
Co-washing is short for conditioner washing. If you must wash your hair, do it with your conditioner. It will freshen your hair without drying it out.
This is a great idea for beauties that sweat and need to clean their hair after a power workout.
5. Put in the Effort With Moisturizing Products
Yes, this is a lot more time and products than straight or wavy girls need to deal with. As discussed earlier, 3C curly hair tends to be on the dry side since the scalp’s natural oils can’t travel from end to end.
Also if you follow tip number 3, you’re saving plenty of time in the middle of the week.
Be patient in your search for the right products. Love your hair and it will love you right back ten-fold.
Put that blow dryer down! As tempting as it may seem to switch over to the straight side, curly girls have all the fun!
3C curly hair is in that sweet spot between volume and easy maintenance. It’s not as frizzy as kinky hair, and will never fall flat compared to other hair types.
Your hair is your crown and the centerpiece of your outfit! You’ve been gifted with effortless volume and built-in pizzazz. Many pay hundreds of dollars to cop your royal crown – you woke up with it.
Voluminous and bouncy hair is your crowning glory.
