We’ve all been there at some point; having to experience those unsightly razor bumps after shaving, but these natural remedies can prove extremely helpful!

How to Get Rid of Razor Bumps

Shaving is the most inexpensive and quick way to remove unwanted hair. Unfortunately it can cause darkening of the skin and worse of all, those unsightly razor bumps that we all know and hate.

Razor Bumps are small irritated bumps on the skin, usually found in areas such as bikini line, armpits and other sensitive areas that we tend to shave often.

They are often brought about after shaving,when hair re-enters the skin as they develop. This can irritate the shaved area causing red and pus-filled pimples (so annoying!)

Let’s get started on how to get rid of those annoying razor bumps

All of these remedies or approaches work, you just have to try and stick to what works best for you.

1. Tea Tree Oil

There are a lot of extraordinary uses of Tea Tree Oil, and it can really help to clear those bumps caused by waxing or shaving. It also contains antibacterial, anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties which are quite effective in treating skin irritation and preventing infection.

Direction: Rub tea tree oil on the affected area at least twice per day using a cotton swap or stick.

Note: Apply this immediately  after shaving for best result.

2. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil  has been a remedy for psoriasis, dry skin and many other skin related issues. Coconut contains fatty acid with antimicrobial,anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties.

Direction: Clean the affected area and simply rub the coconut oil onto the skin, and let it absorb. Can be used on any area of the skin.

3. Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is an alternate cure-all that is extraordinary for skin concerns. It has cooling properties that are incredible for dry skin.

Direction: Slather it on the skin and leave on for a few minutes to allow its mending properties.

Note: Apply this once a week.

4. Sugar Scrub

An incredible formula for razor bumps is utilizing coconut and sugar. It exfoliates the area getting rid of the bumps.

Direction:You simply need to blend 2 tablespoons of sugar, 4 tablespoons of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of crude nectar.

Note: Scrub on the affected area, leave on for a couple of minutes and rinse.

5. Baking Soda

Baking Soda seems like a go-to cleansing and remedy for almost everything. Yep, it also works for razor bumps.

Direction: Dabbing the skin with a cotton ball with 1 mug water and 1 tbsp of Baking Soda to soothe. Let the mixture to stay on the skin until dry, typically around five minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Note:Repeat a few times every day as required until the bumps die down.

6. Essential Oil

Essential oils can  can alleviate and treat Razor Bumps, too. Well, there’s a reason it’s called essential, right?

Direction: Lavender or Chamomile are the most advised essential oils to use. Known for their calming and mending properties, these key oils decrease redness and aggravation on the skin’s surface.Before applying to the skin, dilute five to eight drops of oil in 1/4 container super cold water to counteract further aggravation.

Note: Never apply undiluted essential oils direclty to the skin.

7. Apple Cider Vinegar 

Razor bumps can be dealt with rapidly with apple cider vinegar. Its calming properties work to diminish aggravation and tingling sensation.

Direction: Dip a cotton ball in the vinegar and apply it on the zone. Allow it to air dry, then rise the area with water. Do this a few times each day.

Note: If you have sensitive skin must dilute the apple cider vinegar with water before applying it.

8. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has an alleviating and cooling nature. Likewise, Aloe Vera will keep the skin saturated, which accelerates healing.

Direction: Rub the aloe vera on the affected area. Allow it to dry, and after that wash it off with cool water.

Note: Apply this treatment a few times daily for two to three days.

9. Cucumber

The hydrating and calming properties of cucumber can help with redness caused by shaving. Cucumber contains vitamins C and K, two critical elements in treating irritation.

Direction: Cut a cucumber and  refrigerate for 30 minutes. Rub the cooled cucumber cuts delicately on the affected area and let it sit 10 minutes. Repeat the process until your skin heals.

Another method is to puree a cucumber and blend it with milk. Put the mixture in the fridge to cool. Apply to affected area and leave it on for around 10 minutes, then wash with warm water.

Note: Use this treatment twice a day.

10. Tea Bags

Another natural remedy that you can find right in your kitchen.  Tea bags contains Tannic Acid, which help reduce redness and inflammation.


Place a black tea bag in warm water and let it brew, then place it over the affected area for about three minutes.

Note: Repeat twice a day, or as  needed.

11. Hot Compress

Apply heat compress on the affected are for 5 to 10 minutes to shrink the razor bumps and kill any germs.

12. Hydrocortisone Cream

Put hydrocortisone cream on your Razor Bumps to get rid of redness, inflammation and itching. The bumps will fade away in 1 -3  days.

Useful tips

Wash razor before and after shaving and change the cutting edge once a week to dispose of razor knocks.

Wear cotton underwear or breathable clothing because wearing clothes made out of synthetic materials wont allow your skin to breathe and this will also trap  bacteria and sweat making your razor bumps get worse.

Don’t pick your razor bumps and don’t rub the areas of your skin with razor bumps because when you do that you just slow down the healing process where your razor bumps eventually fade away.
