If you’ve ever heard of the quote “never ask a girl with winged eyeliner why she’s late” then you’ve probably either laughed at it or thought it was funny because let’s face it, you can relate.
We’ve all been through our own personal eyeliner journeys and if yours is a big struggle, don’t worry you’re not alone. This is why I am so grateful to all these makeup artists and enthusiasts who come up with different tutorials to help make our lives easier.
Thanks to me for compiling them for you (laughs). Seriously, though, let’s have a look at it and help each other’s eyeliner game.
There are times when we feel lazy bringing too much makeup in our bag. Other times, it’s a NEED to have less it’s a NEED to have less – like when we travel! like when we travel!
The good thing is when you have an eyeliner in your makeup bag, trust me, you don’t need more. You just need to know the different eyeliner styles and you’ll be good to go.
1. Winged Eyeliner
Alright, first off our list is the famous winged eyeliner. It’s probably the go-to look of every makeup junkie, but it’s also one of the trickiest.
Put it on your eye for an instant made-up look and you can even wear alone without eyeshadow or you can put it on top of a really glammed up eye look for that sexy eye flick.
2. Eyeshadow Eyeliner
One of my favorite eyeliner tutorials is the idea of being able to use your eyeliner as an eyeshadow, too. Take a creamy eyeliner so you can soften it with a brush after and place it all over the lid area.
Be careful not to overdo it unless you want to look like a panda. As in all things eyeliner, it comes with practice. Of course, you have the option to jazz it up with a few glitters.
3. Cat Eye
A cat-eye is such a mesmerizing way to line your eyes. It creates an almond eye illusion really well because it elongates the lines of your eyes on the outer corner and the inner corner, too.
This creates a sloping arch tricking people into thinking you have an almond eye shape.
One of the best eyeliner tutorials you can ever have stored away in your brain is a cat-eye tutorial because honestly, I have a hard time doing a cat eye on myself.
4. Soft Cat-Eye
A soft cat-eye brings such a flirty, dainty look this would work especially well for girls who have yet to master their eyeliner game. Use a cat-eye false lash for added effect and you’re off to a glam night out without having to worry about smudged outlines at the end of the night.
5. Tightlining the Eyes
Another way of using your eyeliner is to tight line on the upper lash line, which means you have to go really close and in between the lashes to create a fuller, younger-looking effect.
As you age, your lash hair gets sparse, so this is a good trick to make you look more youthful. Be sure to use eyeliner that is smudge-proof so you don’t have to worry about messy eyes later on.
6. Smudged Eyeliner
A smokey halo around the eyes is really easy to achieve by using a creamy eyeliner and smudging it out on the edges. This gives your eyes a sophisticated frame and gives you a bolder look.
This can definitely be worn in the day but be careful not to darken it too much.

7. Thin Eyeliner
Eyeliners don’t have to be thick all the time, you can create a more defined eye shape with just a thin eyeliner running across your lid.
This trick is also very helpful for monolid eyes. It creates a little flick towards the end but hides the line across your lid. Check out the video tutorial and learn how to create a barely-there look with your eyeliner.
8. Arabic Makeup
Arab women are known for their beautiful, striking eyes. Their makeup routine is also known to focus on eyes that tell a story. Dramatic and enchanting with the use of bold colors and bold eyeliner looks.

9. Bold Bat Eyeliner Tutorial

Graphic eyeliners are not seen every day but who can tell you what to do with your makeup right? In fact, I’d wear a graphic eyeliner every time I feel like it.
This eyeliner tutorial of a bat wing liner is one for the books. Wear it alone with just a hint of color on your lips and subtle blush and you can totally rock out this look walking in the streets of Manhattan.
10. Dramatic Eyeliner Tutorial
A dramatic eyeliner calls for bold thick lines–it can be a simple winged eye or a graphic eye look that creates drama to your peepers. For this list, I’ve picked out this winged liner look to show you a dramatic eyeliner doesn’t have to be messy, it can be clean and polished as well.
The key is to keep it bold and thick. Check out the video above and see how you can recreate this look.
11. Smoked-Out Winged Eyeliner Tutorial
A smokey winged liner is a such a beautiful accent to have to your eyes. The soft edge creates a bit of edginess to it for days when you don’t really feel a polished look.
This is perfect for anyone working in the field when you’re up and about, and not really sitting in all day. Check out the video tutorial and learn how to create a smokey winged liner.
12. Rimming The Waterline
Rimming the eye line is a little similar to tightlining, but this technique gives your eyeliner more wear, lasting longer and looking bolder. Learn how to apply eyeliner to your waterline and how to make it last longer here.
