Looking for a natural and glowing drugstore makeup tutorial to rock this spring and summer? This makeup tutorial has everything you need to create a beautiful look on a shoestring budget!
Drugstore Makeup Tutorial: For a Glowing Spring Look
When it’s the spring season, radiant skin is the look you want. While more dramatic looks such as the smokey eye or cut crease can still come out to play, natural makeup that emphasizes perfect, luminous skin is THE look for daytime. The good news is that you don’t need perfect skin to pull this natural, glowing look off! All you need is the right makeup products… or, better yet, the right drugstore makeup! Yup, the products used in this drugstore makeup tutorial won’t burn a hole through any of your pockets and will leave you with the best skin of your life.
Products used for this glowing makeup tutorial:
- Chapstick Lipbalm
- L’oreal Skin Perfection Magic Blur Cream
- L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation
- Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer
- Rimmel Match Perfection Powder
- Rimmel Match Perfection Bronzer
- Milani Blush in Luminoso
- Essence Cream to Powder Highlighter
- Eye of Horus Mascara
- Rimmel Eyeshadow Quad
- NYX Buttergloss in Tiramisu
- Ardell Demi Wispies Lashes (optional)
Step 1: Apply lip balm.
Start by applying lip balm on the lips. You can use Chapstick, Carmex, or any of your go-to lip balm. This may seem like quite a different approach, but the reason behind this is to let the lip balm dry when it’s time to apply your lipstick. That will actually save you time!
Step 2: Prime.
Time to get down to business! Prime the face with the L’oreal Skin Perfection Magic Blur Cream to prepare the face for foundation application. Priming helps fill in pores and fine lines to give you a smoother and even canvas to work with once you start applying foundation.
Step 3: Apply foundation.
The secret to the glowing makeup look is dewy skin. Sometimes, it’s hard to find a foundation with a dewy finish. If that’s the case, you can mix the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Primer and the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation to achieve a dewy finish. Apply foundation with a foundation brush or a sponge.
Step 4: Apply concealer.
After foundation, apply concealer under the eyes. Draw a triangle shape to give the eyes a lift as well. You can also use the concealer on your forehead, bridge of the nose, cupid’s bow, and chin for highlighting purposes. Blend with a concealer brush or sponge. When blending around the eyes, you can also blend towards the eyelids. The concealer can act as a base for your eyeshadow. One of the best drugstore concealers is the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer so give it a try!
Step 5: Set with powder.
After foundation and concealer, you must set it with powder. You can try the Rimmel Match Perfection Powder.
Step 6: Apply bronzer.
What’s the secret to a sunkissed skin look? Bronzer of course! Using a bronzer brush or powder brush, apply bronzer on the outer parts of the face. It will instantly give you that glow! A great drugstore bronzer is the Rimmel Match Perfection Bronzer.
Using the same bronzer, apply some product on the eyelids and crease. This will give the eyes more definition, making it look more natural. You can also apply a bit of bronzer on the lower lash line.
Step 7: Apply blush.
When it comes to your blusher, you’d want something that looks natural but with a bit of sheen. It’s best to go for peachy shades than pink ones with this look. Apply the blusher with the blush brush. You can give the Milani Blush in Luminoso a try!
Step 8: Apply highlighter.
If bronzer is the secret to a sunkissed skin, then highlighter is the secret to achieving that perfect glow! Using our favorite Essence Cream to Powder Highlighter, apply it on top of the cheekbones creating a “C” toward the temples. You should also highlight the forehead, inner corner of the eyes, brow bone, nose, cupid’s bow, and chin to brighten up the face.
Step 9: Apply mascara.
Apply a few coats of volumizing mascara on the top and bottom lashes. The Eye of Horus Mascara is a little on the pricey side but heck this one is definitely cheaper than other high-end mascaras and it’s pretty amazing!
Step 10: Apply black eyeshadow.
Please note that if you don’t plan to use false eyelashes, you can skip this step. But if you do, apply black eyeshadow on your lash line so the falsies will look more natural when worn. Any black eyeshadow will do but in this tutorial, the Rimmel Eyeshadow Quad was used.
Step 11: Apply false eyelashes.
When the look is this natural, you’d want to make the eye pop more and that’s what false eyelashes can help with. Need a product recommendation? Try the Ardell Demi Wispies Lashes used in this tutorial. Once you attach the falsies, use your black eyeshadow again and cover the lash band as well as other gaps that need filling in.
Step 12: Apply lip color.
Your lip balm has now softened your lips and is ready for some lip color. But before applying your lipstick or lip gloss, remove any leftover balm with tissue. One of the best lip glosses out there is the NYX Buttergloss and the perfect shade for any glowing look is the Tiramisu.
And there you have it… your radiant and glowing spring and summer makeup!
