A Quick and Easy Way to Get Loose Curls
How to get loose curls? You’ve got this one in the bag girl! I’m so happy I found this loose curls hairstyle tutorial for various reasons.
For one, I don’t have to bring my flat iron and curling iron with me when I travel! Second, I’m not really fond of the twisting technique.
I always accidentally touch the barrel and that’s not cool! And lastly, I love the final result! I get the perfect size waves I want with less effort too!
If you’ve been trying to recreate the wavy hairstyle at home, then you’ve probably seen a dozen YouTube videos on how to get loose curls showing you the same technique–the one where you twist your hair around a curling iron.
Well, we have a better technique to share with you today and yes girl, no more twisting! In fact, you don’t even have to use a curling iron, your good ol’ flat iron will do.
Do I have your unwavering attention now? If so, let’s begin!

Step 1. Practice with the Flat Iron Turned Off
|
Since this will be a new technique, it’s best to practice it first with the flat iron turned off. So how do you do this?
- Start by holding the flat iron over your head and pointing the flat iron downward.
- Now get a section of your hair and wrap it around the barrel once (similar to the curling iron technique).
- When you get to the back, pull it through the plates.
- Clip the plates together and slide it through.
You can choose to wrap the hair towards or away from your face and you can clamp the hair as loose or as tight as you want. If you feel like you’ve mastered the technique, you can start curling!
Step 2. Section and Curl
Now it’s time to section your hair and prepare for proper curling. We always recommend curling the bottom part of your hair first.
Don’t forget to apply a hair heat protectant before using the flat iron. So take one section and follow the technique you practiced–wrap, pull, clip, and slide!
You can switch between curling towards or away from the face. Take one section and follow the technique you practiced–wrap, pull, clip, and slide!
You can switch between curling towards or away from the face. When you’re done with the side you started with, you can now move on to curling the other side of the hair.
Step 3. Spray and Scrunch
Now your hair is completely curled, you have to give it more texture and help lock it in place for longer wear. Spray texturizing hairspray on your hair, making sure to spray the hard to reach places.
After spraying, scrunch the hair to accentuate the curls more.
